Non-Invasive Urinary Incontinence Treatment for Women

What is Incontinence in Women?

Both men and women, as they head into their middle-age years, may find that, occasionally, they will have a small involuntary urinary leak, due to laughing too much, sneezing, coughing too hard, or picking up something slightly heavier than normal. We call this “Stress” incontinence.

“Urge” incontinence is where you feel that sudden need to urinate right away, exacerbated by the fact that you are a mile away from the nearest public restroom, according to your smartphone. Do you ever find yourself planning road trips while determining hourly rest stops that have available restrooms? Accordingly, you also, more often than not, travel alone because of these disruptions.

For women, incontinence issues may also happen before the birth of a child, when there is a mixed incontinence of stress and urge to urinate more often, due to the baby pressing down on the pelvic organs. It takes a while after the baby’s birth, as women begin the recovery period of restrengthening and toning the body back to its normal state, before those incontinence issues disappear. After the second or third birth of a child, the pelvic platform may take longer to regain its original strength again.

When urinary incontinence occurs, it is due to the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles. It is important that, as we age, we maintain an active lifestyle of exercise. We can also learn to do floor exercises that help strengthen those pelvic muscles which control bladder and bowel releases. But when we lose control of those muscles and they seem to just act on their own, we suffer embarrassing public moments unless we manage to prepare for such an event.

Incontinence problems cause many limitations on our lives. For example, we choose only dark to black pants or skirt colors to wear, just in case the usual pad, set in the underwear, is not quite enough. There is also the dissatisfaction of having to buy thicker pads as the situation gets worse. Or maybe it is time to look at incontinence underwear instead.

If you are still dating or in a relationship, somehow it seems like you cannot wear anything nice for your partner. The romance may be gone at first glance at your underwear. We encourage you to present any of your fears or questions to your counselor or medical treatment personnel as we can find immediate solutions for you.

So, what do we do if floor exercises, and other solutions are really not working for us? After all, most of us are leading very busy lives and there may not be enough time to fit in any walks or other exercises at all.

The EMSELLA® Treatment Program

Meet the EMSELLA® Chair treatment program which begins firming up your pelvic floor muscles during the very first treatment session. This program works for both men and women, and past research studies now show that 95 percent of patients, across all age spans, are experiencing an improved quality of life. Having the EMSELLA® solution available, means both men and women can freely do more in life with less worry about sudden incontinence accidents.

How Does it Work?

The EMSELLA® treatment program starts with a comfortable chair that is hooked up to a control monitor. When activated, the patient receives thousands of targeted electromagnetic pulses to the pelvic floor muscles, causing supramaximal contractions of the muscles. These contractions are part of re-training the muscles to regain their previous condition of strength in the right positions where urinary control is regained.

Each patient’s treatment program is uniquely designed to treat the patient’s issues. Typical sessions are 30 minutes long, with roughly six sessions over two weekly scheduled periods for several weeks. The duration of the treatment program depends on the patient’s circumstances and how fast the treatment is taking effect. Several patients have reported improvement in the first session while others may need longer to see positive results.

What Does This Electromagnetic Therapy Feel Like?

You will feel tingling as your muscles are activated to respond to the electromagnetic pulses. Along with the tingling, you will experience contractions throughout your pelvic floor muscular infrastructure. Married patients have reported that these pelvic muscle contractions have re-awakened a part of their intimate activities which enhance their romantic relationship as well.

There is no pain involved although you should let your counselor know if you have any medical implants in your body, such as a pacemaker, other cardiac implants, hearing aids or cochlear implants, and any intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD), also known as a coil.
