Hair Restoration using Keralase with Ultra Laser

Is Keralase better than PRP for Hair Restoration?

What is Better Keralase or PRP for Hair Restoration? There are many way to improve hair growth and texture.  When suffering with thinning hair the key is to stimulate that hair’s follicle.  Keralase is an innovative treatment for hair loss that utilizes the Lutronic Ultra laser in combination with KeraFactor serum. The serum contains proprietary biometric synthetic versions of growth factors and proteins that are known to stimulate hair growth. The use of Ultra alone has already demonstrated significant improvements in scalp health. The Keralase procedure involves the use of the Lutronic Ultra laser to create tiny microchannels in the scalp, which enhance the absorption of the KeraFactor serum. After the laser treatment, KeraFactor is applied and massaged into the scalp. This method is minimally painful, does not cause bleeding, and requires no recovery time. Additionally, it eliminates the need for needles or injections. KeraFactor is considered superior to platelets because it contains highly concentrated levels of growth hormones and proteins that specifically promote hair growth and impact all four stages of the hair life cycle. KeraFactor is encapsulated in nano-liposomes, which enhance its absorption, ensuring the direct delivery of growth factors to the hair follicles especially when paired with the Ultra Laser. Each nano-liposome is packed with thousands of specific growth factors. Platelets, on the other hand, have varying amounts of growth factors based on an individual’s genetics and health. Some growth factors in platelets may even inhibit hair growth. Unlike platelet treatments, KeraFactor does not require drawing blood or multiple scalp injections, which, despite numbing, can be painful and cause bruising or hematomas. The outcomes of Keralase treatments include revitalized hair and increased thickness. While results differ from person to person, clinical studies have indicated an approximate 38% increase in hair growth and a 64% to 113% increase in hair diameter. For more information on this revolutionary hair loss treatment click HERE. Preparing for Keralase Treatment Wash your hair the night before; it should be clean and free of any hair products. Avoid sun exposure or use sun protection for a week before and after each session. Post-treatment Hairs in the telogen phase may shed due to slight trauma from the laser or microneedling. Once the hair and scalp are dry, normal activities, including hair washing and product use, can resume. Regarding hair growth stages, the scalp typically has around 100,000 hair follicles, and it’s normal to lose about 100 hairs daily. The anagen phase, or growth phase, lasts about 3-5 years before the cycle restarts with new hair growth. As for common reversible causes of hair loss, being the right candidate is crucial for the success of Keralase treatment. Therefore, ensuring suitability for the procedure is important. A good idea is to seek a professional consultation with one of our hair restoration specialists to evaluate your current hair growth and scalp condition, ensuring you are a good candidate for this procedure. Additionally, a Proprietary KeraFactor Shampoo and Conditioner is available and may be recommended. This stimulates the scalp for better absorption of the Kerafactor Scalp Stimulating Solution. This product is not necessary, however it does enhance your results. KeraFactor Scalp Stimulating Solution is a peptide complex and revitalizes the scalp. When using this product it’s great to add in Red Light to nourish the scalps cells. Laser Red Light – LLLT (Low Level Light Therapy) Red and Infrared light has been clinically shown to boost the ATP (energy) levels within cells and promotes hair growth. Combination therapy Is Important Combining various modalities of treatment will increase your chance of success for long lasting results. Prevention and early treatment are key. Woman Getting a Diamond Glow

Glo2 Facial vs. DiamondGlow Facial

Glo2 Facial vs. DiamondGlow Facial: Which is Right for You? When it comes to achieving that coveted radiant and youthful complexion, the choices of treatments can be overwhelming. Two standout options that have been making waves in the skincare world are the Glo2 Facial and the DiamondGlow Facial. Both have transformative results, but how do they differ? Let’s dive into the specifics of each to help you decide which treatment might be best for your skin. What is the Glo2 Facial? The Glo2 Facial, also known as the OxyGeneo Facial, is a cutting-edge treatment that combines exfoliation, infusion, and oxygenation to rejuvenate the skin. It’s designed to provide a gentle yet effective solution for various skin concerns, including dullness, fine lines, and uneven texture. How Does It Work? Exfoliation: The treatment starts with a process that removes dead skin cells, similar to a gentle microdermabrasion. This prepares the skin for better absorption of nutrients. Infusion: A nutrient-rich gel is applied, containing active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and vitamins. This gel is tailored to address specific skin needs. Oxygenation: The magic happens here. The OxyGeneo machine induces a chemical reaction that produces CO2 bubbles, which gently burst on the skin’s surface. This triggers the body to send oxygen-rich blood to the treated area, enhancing the absorption of the active ingredients and boosting skin metabolism. Benefits of the Glo2 Facial – Immediate Results: Expect to see a brighter and more hydrated complexion right after your treatment. – Non-Invasive: No needles, no downtime – just a relaxing treatment that leaves your skin feeling rejuvenated. – Customized Treatments: Whether you’re dealing with aging skin, acne, or hyperpigmentation, the Glo2 Facial can be customized to your skin’s needs.     What is the DiamondGlow Facial? The DiamondGlow Facial is a sophisticated treatment that combines exfoliation, extraction, and infusion in one. It’s renowned for its ability to deeply cleanse and hydrate the skin, making it a favorite among those looking to tackle stubborn blackheads, clogged pores, and dryness. How Does It Work? Exfoliation: A diamond-tipped wand is used to exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and smoothing the surface. The level of exfoliation can be adjusted to suit different skin types and concerns. Extraction: The same wand also provides a gentle suction to extract impurities from the pores. This step is particularly beneficial for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Infusion: Simultaneously, the wand infuses the skin with a customized serum packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and other skin-loving ingredients. This ensures that the skin receives the maximum benefits immediately after exfoliation. Benefits of the DiamondGlow Facial – Deep Cleansing: The extraction process ensures that pores are thoroughly cleaned, reducing the chances of future breakouts. – Enhanced Hydration: The infusion of tailored serums helps to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin. – Versatility: Suitable for all skin types and can be adjusted to address specific skin concerns, from acne to aging.   Comparing:  Glo2 vs. Diamond Glow   What is the Treatment Focused On? – Glo2 Facial: Focuses on oxygenating the skin to improve cellular function and enhance absorption of active ingredients. – DiamondGlow Facial: Emphasizes deep cleansing through extraction, making it ideal for those with clogged pores and blackheads.   Method of Action – Glo2 Facial: Uses CO2 bubbles to induce a natural oxygenation process, promoting a healthy glow from within. – DiamondGlow Facial: Utilizes a diamond-tipped wand for exfoliation and extraction while a gentle suction removes the debris, then combined with a serum infusion.   Who is this ideal for? – Glo2 Facial: Suitable for those looking for a gentle yet effective treatment that boosts hydration and radiance without the need for downtime. – DiamondGlow Facial: Perfect for individuals who need a thorough deep cleanse and hydration, especially those prone to blackheads and clogged pores.   Customizability Both treatments offer customizable options to address specific skin concerns, ensuring that you get a personalized experience tailored to your unique needs.   Which One Should You Choose? Choosing between the Glo2 Facial and the DiamondGlow Facial ultimately depends on your skin’s needs and your skincare goals. If you’re seeking a gentle treatment that focuses on oxygenation and hydration, the Glo2 Facial might be your best bet. On the other hand, if you need a deep cleanse to tackle clogged pores and want to benefit from the exfoliating power of a diamond-tipped wand, the DiamondGlow Facial could be the ideal choice. Consulting with our expert skin specialist before choosing your facial service is always a great option. If you are mostly looking for a true relaxing facial spa experience we would have to give this one to the Glo2 facial service. We do find most of our clients like to alternate between these two facials, giving  them the very best anti-aging skin care benefits. Whichever treatment you choose, both promise to leave your skin looking and feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and radiant. So, why not give one a try and see the glow for yourself? red light for pain relief

Red Light Therapy for Pain Relief

Why use Red Light Therapy for Pain Relief? In the heart of our bustling city lies a sanctuary dedicated to your Health — Pure Health Medical Spa. Here, we combine cutting-edge medical technology with a serene environment to help you achieve optimal health and beauty. Today, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on one of our most transformative treatments: Red Light Therapy (RLT). Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic pain, speeding up the healing of an injury, or simply boosting your overall health, RLT offers a natural, non-invasive solution. What is Red Light Therapy? Red Light Therapy uses low-level wavelengths of red light to treat various conditions. Unlike other types of light therapy, RLT penetrates deep into the skin, reaching tissues and cells to stimulate the mitochondria within the cell. This stimulation produces energy for the cell to improve the healing processes of the tissue. This therapy is both safe and effective, making it an ideal choice for individuals looking to improve their health without relying on medications or invasive procedures. How Does Red Light Therapy Work? When the red light penetrates your skin, it is absorbed by the mitochondria in your cells—the powerhouse of the cell. This absorption boosts the mitochondria’s ability to produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the energy currency of the cell. Increased ATP (Energy) production leads to improved tissue repair, reduced inflammation, and faster healing. The Science Behind Red Light Therapy The efficacy of RLT is supported by a growing body of research. Here are four studies that highlight its benefits: Pain Relief in Osteoarthritis    A study published in *Lasers in Medical Science* demonstrated that RLT significantly reduces pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The researchers found that after a series of treatments, participants reported a noticeable decrease in pain and an improvement in joint function compared to those who received a placebo treatment. This study underscores the potential of RLT as a non-invasive option for managing chronic pain conditions. Enhanced Muscle Recovery    In another study, *The American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation* found that athletes who used RLT after strenuous exercise experienced less muscle soreness and recovered faster than those who did not. The anti-inflammatory effects of red-light help reduce muscle damage and promote faster healing, making it a popular choice among professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Wound Healing and Tissue Repair    Research published in Photomedicine and Laser Surgery explored the impact of RLT on wound healing. The study revealed that red light significantly accelerates the healing of skin wounds by promoting collagen production and increasing blood circulation to the affected area. This finding is particularly beneficial for patients recovering from surgery or injury, as it can reduce downtime and improve recovery outcomes. Reduction of Fibromyalgia Symptoms    A clinical trial featured in Pain Research and Management examined the effects of RLT on patients with fibromyalgia, a condition characterized by widespread pain and fatigue. Participants who received RLT reported a significant reduction in pain and fatigue levels, as well as an overall improvement in their quality of life. This study highlights the potential of RLT to provide relief for those suffering from chronic pain syndromes.        5. Fat Reduction    Red light therapy interacts with fat cells, prompting them to release stored fat. This results in a decrease in overall fat volume, leading to a trimmer physique. To learn more, go to weight loss using Red Light. RF microneedling service

What is the Best RF Microneedling Device for Skin Rejuvenation

In the rapidly evolving world of aesthetic treatments, RF (radiofrequency) microneedling has emerged as a revolutionary procedure to rejuvenate and tighten skin, reduce wrinkles, and treat various skin imperfections. Two prominent systems that dominate the RF microneedling market is the Genius by Lutronic and the Morpheus 8. While both offer impressive results, choosing the right system for your needs can be daunting. If you are searching for “What is the best RF microneedling device on the market? Then this blog for you. We dive into key benefits and features to look for when choosing your Microneedling Service. 1. Precision and Customization One of the standout features of the Genius RF microneedling system is its precision. Genius employs advanced real-time feedback technology that adjusts energy delivery based on the skin’s impedance. This ensures consistent and accurate RF energy delivery tailored to each patient’s unique skin type and condition. The system’s smart sensors provide practitioners with continuous updates, allowing for real-time adjustments that optimize treatment efficacy and safety, preventing adverse effects. In contrast, Morpheus 8 lacks this level of precision. While it delivers effective results, the absence of real-time feedback can lead to variations in energy delivery, potentially affecting the consistency of the treatment outcomes. 2. Depth Control They both have depth control. However, the Genius offer programs that are of varying depths for certain areas of the skin. Because not all areas of the skin are the same thickness. 3. Patient Comfort Patient comfort is a critical factor in aesthetic treatments. The Genius system is designed with patient comfort in mind. Using ultra-fine needles, the finest needles in the industry (the only company who source their own needles, so they are able to deliver the quality control needed for their product) and precise energy delivery to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Additionally, the real-time feedback system helps prevent overheating and ensures a more comfortable experience. Morpheus 8, while effective, can be more uncomfortable due to its broader needle design and lack of real-time adjustment capabilities. This can result in increased discomfort during the procedure and potentially longer recovery times. 4. Consistent Results The real-time feedback and precise energy delivery of Genius contribute to more consistent and predictable results. Patients can expect uniform skin tightening and rejuvenation, with minimal risk of under or over-treatment. The ability to customize depth and energy levels ensures that each session is optimized for the best possible outcome. Morpheus 8 can deliver results but may lack the same level of consistency due to its fixed energy delivery system. Variations in skin impedance can lead to uneven treatment, affecting overall efficacy. 5. Faster Recovery Genius’s advanced technology not only enhances treatment effectiveness but also promotes faster recovery. The precise needle design and controlled energy delivery minimize tissue damage, reducing downtime and promoting quicker healing. Patients can typically resume their normal activities within a day or two. Morpheus 8, while effective, may result in longer recovery times due to its broader needle design and less controlled energy delivery. Patients that have had both tell us they experienced more swelling, redness, and discomfort post-treatment with the Morpheus. 6. Advanced Safety Features Safety is paramount in any aesthetic procedure. At our Integrated Medical office our top priority is safety. The Genius incorporates advanced safety features, including its real-time impedance monitoring and intelligent energy delivery system. These features ensure that the treatment is safe, with minimal risk of burns or other complications. Morpheus 8, although generally safe, lacks the same advanced safety mechanisms. The absence of real-time feedback can increase the risk of inconsistent energy delivery, potentially leading to skin burns or other adverse effects. Conclusion Genius distinguishes itself from other RF microneedling devices on the market by the superior effectiveness of the treatments without the associated downtime and its safety. Because there are 49 needles per tip (compared with 24 needles with Morpheus8), more energy can be emitted, producing a higher level of skin tightening. Additionally, the Genius needles are finer and more flexible, causing less epidermal injury, less risk for bruising, bleeding, or scratches often seen with Morpheus 8 treatments. These were the deciding factors that lead us to choose the Genius device over any other RF Microneedling device on the market and our clients are glad we did :). If you have been thinking about trying RF microneedling but were unsure about what device to choose, we are confident you will love your results with Genius. Laser hair removal session

How Many Sessions of Laser Hair Removal Do You Need?

In the quest for smooth, hair-free skin, laser hair removal has emerged as a popular and effective solution. But how many sessions are needed to achieve the desired results? This is a common question among those considering this treatment. The answer isn’t one-size-fits-all, as several factors influence the number of sessions required. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the 5 factors that need to be considered when understanding how many laser hair removal sessions are neccessary. Understanding Laser Hair Removal Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment (melanin) in hair follicles with a concentrated beam of light. This light converts to heat, which damages the hair follicle, inhibiting future hair growth. While this process is highly effective, hair grows in cycles, and the laser can only target hair during its active growth phase (anagen phase). This is why multiple sessions are necessary. Factors Influencing the Number of Sessions 1. Hair Color and Type: Dark, coarse hair typically responds best to laser hair removal because the laser targets melanin. Lighter hair colors, such as blonde, red, or gray, may require more sessions since they have less melanin and are harder for the laser to detect. 2. Skin Tone: The contrast between skin tone and hair color affects the treatment’s efficacy. People with light skin and dark hair tend to see quicker results. Advances in technology have made it possible to treat a broader range of skin tones, but those with darker skin may need more sessions. 3. Treatment Area: Different body areas respond differently to laser hair removal. For example, facial hair may require more sessions compared to body hair. Commonly treated areas like the legs, underarms, and bikini line usually see significant results after fewer sessions. 4. Hair Growth Cycle: Since laser hair removal is effective only during the anagen phase, and not all hair is in this phase at the same time, multiple sessions are spaced out to catch each hair follicle in its active growth phase. 5. Hormonal Factors: Hormones play a significant role in hair growth. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hormonal imbalances can lead to increased hair growth, necessitating more sessions. Typical Treatment Schedule On average, patients require between 6 to 8 sessions to achieve optimal results. Here’s a general breakdown by treatment area: – Face: 6-10 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. – Underarms: 4-6 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. – Bikini Line: 6-8 sessions, spaced 6 weeks apart. – Legs: 6-8 sessions, spaced 6-8 weeks apart. – Back and Chest: 6-10 sessions, spaced 8 weeks apart. Maintenance Sessions After completing the initial series of sessions, some individuals may require maintenance sessions. This varies greatly from person to person. Maintenance sessions might be needed once or twice a year to address any new hair growth that appears due to hormonal changes or other factors. Tips for Maximizing Results 1. Consistent Schedule: Adhering to the recommended treatment schedule is crucial. Skipping sessions or waiting too long between them can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. 2. Avoid Sun Exposure: Sun exposure before and after treatment can increase the risk of side effects. Use sunscreen and avoid tanning beds. 3. Follow Pre- and Post-Treatment Instructions: Your technician will provide specific guidelines, such as avoiding certain skincare products or shaving the treatment area before your appointment. 4. Choose a Qualified Provider: Ensure that your treatments are performed by an experienced professional to minimize risks and maximize results. 5. Choose a Quality Laser Hair Medical Laser Device: The Lutronic Clarity II is known in the industry to perform best for laser hair removal.  The Clarity II offers the most setting options available to customize for best outcomes based on the persons skin color and thickness of hair. Conclusion Laser hair removal is a long-term solution for unwanted hair, offering significant advantages over traditional methods like shaving or waxing. Understanding the factors that influence the number of sessions needed can help set realistic expectations and prepare you for the journey to smoother skin. While most people achieve their desired results within 6 to 8 sessions, individual variations may require more or fewer treatments. If you’re considering laser hair removal, consult with a qualified professional to discuss your specific needs and develop a personalized treatment plan. With the right approach, you can look forward to enjoying the benefits of laser hair removal for years to come. Ready to start your laser hair removal journey? red light therapy for improved vision

Red Light Therapy for Improved Vision

Red Light Therapy is gaining recognition for its ability to enhance energy, sleep, and reduce inflammation. With ongoing research, its applications are expanding. Recently, it has been shown to positively affect the gut microbiome and boost collagen production. Moreover, it’s now being associated with maintaining eye health especially vision beyond the age of 40. Red Light Linked To Improved Vision In a 2021 study, subjects were exposed to Red Light Therapy for three minutes weekly. This led to a 17-20% improvement in visual acuity. Specifically speaking, single exposures to 670 nm light delivered in the morning, at only 8 mW/cm2 has the ability to improve cone photoreceptor function in aged subjects to levels commonly found in much younger individuals and can be sustained for up to a week. Let’s explain these findings further. The metabolic rate and the aging process are both influenced by how well the mitochondria works. However, as we age, the mitochondrial membrane potential decreases, leading to a reduction in adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, which is crucial for cellular energy. Furthermore, aging accelerates cellular decline due to the increased production of inflammatory reactive oxygen species (ROS), which destroys the healthy cells.1. Retinal photoreceptors have the greatest mitochondrial density and metabolic demand in the body and age rapidly2. A pivotal point in their functional ageing in the human retina appears to be around 40 years3. Subsequently 30% of central rods progressively die, and while cones remain, they have reduced functionality4,5,6,7. While few human experiments have been undertaken with long wavelength light in ageing, daily exposures to relatively bright 670 nm light over weeks in aged humans has been demonstrated to improve rod and cone function3,8. Which means vision improves as we age! Best Time to Do Red Light Therapy For the greatest improvement from Red Light Therapy, exposure should happen within 3 hours of waking. The researchers found no improvement in color contrast vision in the participants receiving light exposure in the afternoon. The timing is likely because mitochondria follow the body’s circadian rhythms, and according to Professor Glen Jeffery. Additionally, the study also found that improvements in vision lasted up to 1 week, so the researchers encouraged weekly use of Red Light Therapy to see continued improvements. red light therapy for acne

Red Light Therapy for Acne

Acne can be a minor annoyance for some and significantly diminish other’s confidence. This skin condition may be painful, lead to lasting scars, and undermine the self-esteem of those affected. Red light therapy harnesses the power of light to promote healing, diminish inflammation from severe cystic acne, alleviate pain, enhance skin appearance, and minimize scarring. Acne typically starts during puberty and is most common among teenagers and young adults, yet it can continue into one’s 30s and 40s. The condition arises when oil and dead skin cells block the hair follicles under the skin’s surface. Excessive production of sebum, the oil that keeps the skin moist, plays a role in acne formation. Acne symptoms include blackheads, pus-filled pimples, and large, red, sore bumps. Although not life-threatening, acne can cause significant embarrassment, hindering one’s ability to live life fully. Research indicates that some individuals feel unattractive due to their acne, while others experience heightened anxiety. It can make teens too self-conscious to engage in sports, work, or classroom participation. Moreover, acne can impact emotional well-being, with sufferers often experiencing anxiety and depression. Acne treatments range from over-the-counter creams and cleansers to antibiotics. Regrettably, not every treatment is effective for everyone, and options for treating acne scars and red spots are limited. However, red light therapy offers promising results for acne management. Use Red Light Therapy for Acne Red light therapy aids in the healing of acne by penetrating beneath the skin’s surface to repair and calm irritated tissues. Use Red Light Therapy to Get Rid of Red Spots Caused by Acne Acne can alter skin tissue, leading to temporary darkening known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This occurs because injuries from acne cause inflammation, prompting the skin to produce more melanin—the pigment that colors skin, hair, and eyes. Melanin serves a protective role, shielding the skin from damaging UV rays by darkening it. Similarly, the skin generates melanin in response to the irritation and inflammation caused by acne. As a pimple heals, the excess melanin forms a dark spot. Actions like squeezing or picking at pimples can exacerbate these spots. Although these dark spots from acne are temporary and typically fade on their own, they can persist for 3 to 24 months or even longer. Continual irritation, such as picking at pimples, may prolong hyperpigmentation. Red light therapy aids in acne treatment by boosting circulation and delivering inflammatory mediators to the affected skin tissue. These mediators help manage swelling and prevent the inflammation that leads to melanin production, thereby preventing the formation of dark spots. Get Rid Of Acne Scars Scars can develop when the trauma of acne damages your skin’s derma, which is the layer of tissue just below the surface of your skin. Your body produces collagen to help your skin heal from acne. Collagen fibers can help skin heal quickly, but overgrowth and poor distribution of collagen can cause a scar to form. Red light therapy can also address acne scars by improving the distribution of collagen fibers, thereby preventing the formation of visible scar tissue. Laser resurfacing, which also uses the power of light energy, can also remove damaged skin and scar tissue. Combine Red Light Therapy With Other Treatments Red light therapy can complement other acne treatments, including exfoliants that remove dead skin cells which contribute to acne. At Pure Health Medical we have an Acne Bootcamp that gets great results that can utilize red light as one of the essential treatments for some clients. Get The Most Out of Your Red Light Therapy To enhance the effectiveness of red light therapy for acne, ensure that all sunscreen and makeup are removed from the affected area prior to treatment. These products may obstruct the penetration of the red and near-infrared LED rays utilized in the therapy. Provided that sensitivity is not a concern, it is permissible to apply anti-acne skincare products after red light therapy sessions. Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) are beneficial as they dissolve sebum and cleanse the follicles, helping to diminish pimples and blackheads. Additionally, we can recommend salicylic acid can be used post-therapy to exfoliate the skin and unclog pores for some cases of acne prone clients.

clog arteries

Why is cardiovascular disease only found in arteries?

I believe that by posing high-quality questions like these, we can enhance our search for solutions to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Let’s delve into this topic in our blog. Heart disease and atherosclerosis is found exclusively in arteries, not veins. What is the reason behind this? Let’s start by understanding arteries must dilate (expand) and contract to accommodate changes in blood pressure. This is achieved through a thin layer of muscle surrounding the arteries. In contrast, veins do not perform this function. To illustrate, consider a new rubber garden hose versus one that is dry and cracked. These cracks are filled to prevent leaks. Similarly, our arteries experience cracks due to poor health of the arterial walls, necessitating repair by the body. The prevalence to the cracking is measured by certain inflammatory markers such as CRP and others. Interestingly, cholesterol is required for repairing these damages, which explains the increase presence of cholesterol at sites undergoing repair. Therefore, the analogy that cholesterol acts as firefighters rather than arsonists is apt; just because firefighters are present at every house fire does not mean they caused it. In fact, studies indicate that heart attack survivors tend to have higher cholesterol levels. Whereas there is a larger percentage of individuals who succumb to heart attacks having lower cholesterol levels. If we have elevated inflammatory markers in the blood that is the leading sign you must find the cause of what is inflaming your body or else this inflammation will continue to damage the walls within your arteries. One such cause of inflammation within the walls of the arteries is the increase in oxidative stress. It is this oxidative stress that can cause the cracks in the artery walls. Read a published study about this further on PubMed or click on the target title here Oxidative Stress in Cardiovascular Diseases: Still a Therapeutic Target? – PubMed (nih.gov) For those seeking a more in-depth approach to preventing cardiovascular diseases and understanding risk factors, consider scheduling a functional medicine consultation. We can explore our cardiometabolic blood panel testing, which offers more precise insights into your cardiovascular risks and strategies for addressing them. How To Fix Sagging Skin?

Are you searching for a bit of a lift and tone in your skin? And looking for the best skin-tightening treatment to solve the sagginess? We have the lowdown here. Firstly, what’s to blame? Well, you’ve got gravity as you age, the sun, genetics, lifestyle choices, exercise routines – there is a whole host of reasons for the sagginess. Skin changes are among the most visible signs of aging. Sagging skin, for one, is a common concern for people and their aging skin but, there’s hope! Are you ready for a more realistic and holistic approach to reduce skin slackening and revive skin elasticity and bounce.  In this blog you will learn about a technology that is so advanced you would think you had a surgical facelift. But first lets give you some background about your aging skin. WHAT CAUSES SAGGING SKIN? Before we discuss your options on how to tighten your skin, it’s beneficial to understand the causes of sagging skin. “Sagging skin is inevitable. As we age, we lose collagen and elastin, which are the proteins that help keep our skin tight. In addition, hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our body, also decreases with age. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin retain moisture and appear plump.” As a result, skin sagging usually occurs in the early 30s,” US-based cosmetic dermatologist Dr Karan Lal. Certain factors we can’t control when it comes to skin aging. Firstly, the inevitable ‘intrinsic aging’, also called chronological aging. It is something we can’t control and is caused by internal factors. As we mature, our skin cells biologically age and hormones drop; midlife estrogen levels fall for women and testosterone for men diminishes. The cell’s slow regeneration in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin on your body) leads to thinner, drier, and saggy skin.  So often times we need help to build and tighten our skin.  The most effective treatment for this is called Radio Frequency Plus Microneedling using the Genius device available at Pure Health Medical and other medical spas near you. Why is the Genius RF Microneedling the Best Skin Tightening Device to Date? Here we have the crème de la crème of skin tightening technology called Radiofrequency (RF) therapy, also called Radiofrequency skin tightening, is one of the most popular anti-aging and skin tightening treatments offered at medical spas. It’s also a hit for patients, offering minimal downtime but maximum results. It sends radio heat waves below the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production. This process speeds up cell turnover, so the skin gets firmer and thicker over time. Besides sculpting sagging facial contours, Radiofrequency skin tightening treatment also evens skin tone, plumps out wrinkles, smooths cellulite, and helps treat loose skin around the belly or upper arms‌. The genius by Lutronics uses the thinnest and sharpest needles compared to any other device on the market.  The needles are insulated, this allows them to deliver that radio frequency energy deep under the skin surface, thus stimulating the building of new collagen.  After a few months you notices results of a tight and toned skin surface like below. Results After 3 Treatment Using The Genius Please feel free to Pure Health Medical at (614) 839-1044 with any questions or to schedule a free skin care consultation. HRT and Menopause

How to Get HRT for Menopause?

Menopause is a natural phase in every woman’s life, marking the end of her reproductive years. However, the transition can often be accompanied by uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and vaginal dryness. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has been a game-changer for many women seeking relief from these symptoms. If you’re wondering how to get HRT for menopause and searching for “HRT near me,” this guide will provide you with all the necessary information. Understanding Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Before diving into how to get HRT for menopause, it’s essential to understand what it is. Hormone Replacement Therapy involves taking medications containing female hormones to replace those that your body no longer makes after menopause.  As the female ovaries dry up during menopause there is a shift in hormones no longer being made by the ovaries to the adrenal glands which is an organ that is used for many things but most notably the ability to manage the daily stressors. For more information on the adrenal gland function you can go to Adrenal Gland: What It Is, Function, Symptoms & Disorders.  As a result the Adrenals become more taxed and highly important.  This is why HRT is a highly effective treatment method that can help manage menopausal symptoms and improve your quality of life. There are three main types of HRT: Estrogen-only therapy (ET): This is typically prescribed for women who have had their uterus removed. Estrogen plus progestogen therapy (EPT): This is recommended for women who still have their uterus because estrogen alone can increase the risk of uterine cancer. Testosterone: It’s not just for men.  Women need it just in lower amounts. Plus Testosterone can and does convert to Estrogen through a process called aromatization.  Finding an HRT Provider Near You The first step in getting HRT for menopause is finding a healthcare provider who specializes in this field. Start by searching online using keywords like “HRT near me.” This should give you a list of potential providers in your area. Once you have a list, research each provider thoroughly. Look at their reviews and ratings online, and call the medical office and ask questions like; Do you use Bio-identical Hormone replacement therapy or are they synthetic?  HINT do not use synthetic hormone replacement therapy. What are the different administration methods used?  For example; pellet insertion, lotions or oral dosages.  Pellet insertion is the best option most of the time because it gives you a healthy consistent dose all the time without the ups and downs of other types of administration. Scheduling an Appointment After choosing an HRT provider near you, the next step is to schedule an appointment. During this initial consultation, your healthcare provider will discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any concerns you may have about HRT. They will likely order blood tests to check your hormone levels. This information will help them determine if HRT is right for you and what type of therapy would be most beneficial. At Pure Health Medical we go an extra step with necessary and perform a DUTCH test to make sure the hormones in your body are being metabolized (broken down) properly so they do not cause any side effects and health concerns. Discussing Your Treatment Options If your healthcare provider determines that you’re a good candidate for HRT, they will discuss the different treatment options available. These could include pills, patches, gels, creams, or vaginal rings. Each method has its pros and cons, so it’s crucial to discuss these with your provider to make an informed decision. Your healthcare provider will also talk about the potential risks associated with HRT. While it can significantly alleviate menopausal symptoms, it’s not without risks. Some studies suggest that certain types of HRT can increase the risk of breast cancer and heart disease. However, the benefits often outweigh these risks for many women. Starting Your HRT Journey Once you’ve decided on a treatment plan with your healthcare provider, you can start your HRT journey. It’s important to remember that every woman’s experience with HRT is unique – what works for one person might not work for another.  Which is why you need to find a medical clinic who you trust. You’ll need regular follow-ups with your healthcare provider to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. It’s also essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle while on HRT by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption because the hormones will work synergistically and be more effective the healthier you are. Conclusion Getting started with Hormone Replacement Therapy can seem daunting at first. But by understanding what it involves and how to find an “HRT clinic near me,” you can take control of your menopausal symptoms and improve your quality of life. Remember that open communication with your healthcare provider is key in this journey. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or express any concerns you may have about HRT. After all, your health and comfort are what matter the most. Healthy and Delicious Olive Oil

Olive Oil Benefits

Amazing Benefits of Olive Oil (Be Aware of Fake Olive Oil) Olive Oil is considered a superfood source It is rich in healthy monounsaturated fats. The key fatty acid in olive oil is oleic acid. This fatty acid has been found to be responsible for lowering inflammation.  Research suggests that oleic acid can reduce levels of important inflammatory blood markers like high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and Interleukin-6. Inflammation is at the heart of virtually every chronic disease.  So reducing inflammation is a really good thing. There is also a reduced stroke events associated with consumption of olive oil. Thirty-two cohort studies (42 reports) including 841,211 subjects  found that olive oil was the only source of monounsaturated fat associated with a reduced risk of stroke. Now some cardiovascular benefits! Olive oil intake has also been shown to lower blood pressure. In one study, olive oil reduced the need for blood pressure medication by 48%. Study found that a single dose of high polyphenol olive oil increased endothelial function (cells lining the interior of blood vessels), decreased bad” LDL cholesterol from oxidation and moderated blood glucose. Diabetes Benefits Several studies have found that olive oil olive oil, combined with a Mediterranean diet, can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and improve insulin sensitivity. Olive Oil and Helicobacter Pylori A study in humans suggested that 30 grams of extra virgin olive oil, taken daily, can eliminate Helicobacter pylori infection in 10–40% of people in as little as two weeks. The results of lab studies showed olive oil’s phenolic compounds were effective against eight strains of H. pylori, including three that are resistant to some antibiotics. Now before you go sucking down tablespoonfuls of olive oil you should know that you first need to get your omega 3-6-9 ratios in check.  The fatty acid ratio in your body is most important.  Our bodies and cells need the proper composition of essential fatty acids to produce healthy cells and hormones. We can measure this ratio by getting a Pure Health fatty acid profile blood test. The other important factor is to first clean up your diet with consuming less processed oils before adding in more oils(fatty acids) even if it is healthy olive oil. Choose Your Olive Oil Wisely Turns out many companies that make extra virgin olive oil dilute their product with cheaper, lower grade oils like canola, safflower or sunflower oils. Brands that passed the University of California test were: Bariani, California Olive Oil, Kirkland Organic, Lucero, Lucini, McEvoy Ranch Organic, Olea Estates Ottavio. Look for the approval California Olive Oil Council (COOC Certified Extra Virgin). If in doubt you can test for fake olive oils yourself. Simply refrigerate the oil. It should become more solid as it gets colder. If you oil doesn’t become thick and cloudy in the refrigerator you know it’s probably fake or lower grade oil. In addition you can look for the seal denoting approval by the California Olive Oil Council, labeled as “COOC Certified Extra Virgin” Seals of approval from the Italian Olive Grower’ Association, the Extra Virgin Alliance (EVA) and UNAPROL also signal a good pure product. Advice: stick with high quality brands that passed the University of California test of that have earned a seal of approval from one of the organizations we just mentioned and clean up your fatty acid diet first.  Pure Health Medical can help you get started with a free consultation can to learn more at 614-839-1044. Non-Invasive Urinary Incontinence Treatment for Women

What is Incontinence in Women? Both men and women, as they head into their middle-age years, may find that, occasionally, they will have a small involuntary urinary leak, due to laughing too much, sneezing, coughing too hard, or picking up something slightly heavier than normal. We call this “Stress” incontinence.  “Urge” incontinence is where you feel that sudden need to urinate right away, exacerbated by the fact that you are a mile away from the nearest public restroom, according to your smartphone. Do you ever find yourself planning road trips while determining hourly rest stops that have available restrooms? Accordingly, you also, more often than not, travel alone because of these disruptions.  For women, incontinence issues may also happen before the birth of a child, when there is a mixed incontinence of stress and urge to urinate more often, due to the baby pressing down on the pelvic organs. It takes a while after the baby’s birth, as women begin the recovery period of restrengthening and toning the body back to its normal state, before those incontinence issues disappear. After the second or third birth of a child, the pelvic platform may take longer to regain its original strength again.  When urinary incontinence occurs, it is due to the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles. It is important that, as we age, we maintain an active lifestyle of exercise. We can also learn to do floor exercises that help strengthen those pelvic muscles which control bladder and bowel releases. But when we lose control of those muscles and they seem to just act on their own, we suffer embarrassing public moments unless we manage to prepare for such an event.  Incontinence problems cause many limitations on our lives. For example, we choose only dark to black pants or skirt colors to wear, just in case the usual pad, set in the underwear, is not quite enough. There is also the dissatisfaction of having to buy thicker pads as the situation gets worse. Or maybe it is time to look at incontinence underwear instead.  If you are still dating or in a relationship, somehow it seems like you cannot wear anything nice for your partner. The romance may be gone at first glance at your underwear. We encourage you to present any of your fears or questions to your counselor or medical treatment personnel as we can find immediate solutions for you. So, what do we do if floor exercises, and other solutions are really not working for us? After all, most of us are leading very busy lives and there may not be enough time to fit in any walks or other exercises at all. The EMSELLA® Treatment Program   Meet the EMSELLA® Chair treatment program which begins firming up your pelvic floor muscles during the very first treatment session. This program works for both men and women, and past research studies now show that 95 percent of patients, across all age spans, are experiencing an improved quality of life. Having the EMSELLA® solution available, means both men and women can freely do more in life with less worry about sudden incontinence accidents. How Does it Work?   The EMSELLA® treatment program starts with a comfortable chair that is hooked up to a control monitor. When activated, the patient receives thousands of targeted electromagnetic pulses to the pelvic floor muscles, causing supramaximal contractions of the muscles. These contractions are part of re-training the muscles to regain their previous condition of strength in the right positions where urinary control is regained. Each patient’s treatment program is uniquely designed to treat the patient’s issues. Typical sessions are 30 minutes long, with roughly six sessions over two weekly scheduled periods for several weeks. The duration of the treatment program depends on the patient’s circumstances and how fast the treatment is taking effect. Several patients have reported improvement in the first session while others may need longer to see positive results.    What Does This Electromagnetic Therapy Feel Like?   You will feel tingling as your muscles are activated to respond to the electromagnetic pulses. Along with the tingling, you will experience contractions throughout your pelvic floor muscular infrastructure. Married patients have reported that these pelvic muscle contractions have re-awakened a part of their intimate activities which enhance their romantic relationship as well.  There is no pain involved although you should let your counselor know if you have any medical implants in your body, such as a pacemaker, other cardiac implants, hearing aids or cochlear implants, and any intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD), also known as a coil. PRP Knee Injection

PRP VS STEROIDS

What is PRP? PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma which is composed of a component of the blood called platelets, and plasma, which is the liquid part of blood. When you donate plasma, the liquid is separated from the blood, and both are saved for use in different medical remedies. In the cases of PRP, more platelets are concentrated and added on top of what is considered a usual sample draw of blood. Once the blood draw is in a tube, it is put into a centrifuge where it spins until the platelets separate from the other blood components and are now concentrated in the plasma residue. This concentrate of platelets and plasma is injected as a rejuvenating stimulation healing treatment for various injuries of the knee, rotator-cuff and elbow, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and more. These areas have traditionally been treated with steroids, particularly for athletes, but that is only a short-term panacea for pain without any real rejuvenation of the damaged cells and has damaging consequences such as decaying the surrounding tissue causing weakening and susceptibility of re-injury to the area. As the blood draw comes from the patient, there is no chance of rejection. It is recommended that the patient be hydrated before the draw is taken. You also want to avoid any NSAID at least one week before a PRP injection so that the body can heal.  NSAIDs work well to decrease inflammation but they also prevent healing. PRP: A Natural And Effective Option Compared to Dangerous Steroids One of many studies has shown PRP to be the better option for musculoskeletal pain. The conclusion of this study showed PRP appeared to enable biological healing of the lesion, whereas CS appeared to provide short-term, symptomatic relief but resulted in tendon degeneration. PRP injections cannot be used at the same time as steroid injections, as steroids would interfere with the rejuvenating effects of PRP. When using PRP, you are working on a long-term effect for permanently fixing the problem area. Steroid injections are a quick symptomatic fix for pain and inflammation and can sometimes create complications that PRP doesn’t. If you have taken a steroid injection, you must wait for one to two weeks before having a PRP appointment to draw your blood sample. One week before, discontinue anti-inflammatory medications, blood-thinning herbs, or supplements. The doctor will advise you on how to eat clean for the days following the PRP injection to aid the body in healing and repairing. Let Us Help You End Your Pain At Pure Health Medical, we utilize a personalized approach for each patient. Especially when considering PRP therapy, it’s important for our experienced specialists to understand your condition and how long you’ve had the issue and what (if any) medications you are taking. Check out our PRP therapy page to learn more about how our treatment works and if this could be an ideal solution for your condition. Spinal Decompression for Disc Bulge, Sciatica & Arthritis

What is Spinal Decompression? Spinal decompression is a natural therapy that decreases the load on the spinal discs and vertebrae that are compressing spinal nerves. There are a few reasons why someone might need spinal decompression.  As you age, your spine can begin to compress against the spinal disks creating decreased space choking the nerve supply coming out of the spine.  Or an injury to the back may cause bulging or herniated disks or misalign in the spine creating pressure on the nerve root causing pain. Over time, without corrective physical therapy and chiropractic treatments, the tissue dysfunction becomes more pronounced, causing excess wear and tear on the joints resulting in arthritis. Long term this can create a lot of pain, resulting in permanent spinal stenosis, in other words, narrowing between the spine where nerves are supposed to be free of pressure.  This can also result in sciatica, arm numbness or radiating pain. Patient on spinal decompression at Pure Health Medical. Nonsurgical spinal decompression, while not applicable to all spinal compression conditions, can aid the patient by lying on a flat surface and gently stretching the body and back, easing pressure on bulging or herniated disks. The disks could retract back into alignment with the rest of the spine, relieving painful nerve pressure, promoting re-entry of needed fluids and air to regenerate the disks. Typical spinal decompression sessions last between 15 to 20 minutes and, depending on your uniquely designed treatment plan, are scheduled over four to eight weeks. Other treatments you may receive are electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and heat or cold therapy and chiropractic adjustments. If you have any electrical implants, fractures, tumors, or advanced osteoporosis, you should tell your specialist first before trying spinal decompression treatments. This is usually taken care of, however, during your first assessment with the Biomechanical specialist. Sciatica Sciatica is similar to the pain occurring in spinal stenosis when the lower back is curved and pain radiates down into one leg, or both. A patient may experience varying degrees of pain, ranging from aches to sharp needle-like pricks, as well as numbing of the legs. They may have to rest often by sitting down or leaning on something to relieve the leg pressure.  For formerly active people, this can be very disturbing when going from fully active levels to barely being able to walk for more than 10 minutes before pain and numbness occurs. Exercises can be designed to do while lying down to strengthen muscles which could help with walking longer.  A chiropractic doctor can design corrective exercises to help with the pain and strengthening the muscles, as well as avoiding inappropriate muscular compensation. Chiropractic adjustment may help the vertebrae in the spine correctly plus giving spinal decompression longer lasting more permanent results.  Massage Therapy Massage Therapy can also help with pain by lying flat while a massage therapist kneads out bunched-up muscles which tighten when there is pain. During the massage, the body relaxes, stretches longer, giving a patient the mini version of a decompression treatment. One of these sessions once a week can be very beneficial along with the exercises provided for strengthening.  In kinesiology therapy, taping is a process of discovering and pin-pointing weak areas in the body where more adjustments to the body are needed. Athletes or those who endure daily strenuous activities, benefit from such therapies as it helps realign the body back into its normal state.  How Does Arthritis Affect the Body? Arthritis in any part of your body, can exacerbate joint pain and cause stiffness. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the two most commonly addressed when diagnosing joint and cartilage pain. Knees, neck, back, shoulders, and other body parts, are common areas for arthritis to attack. A number of natural therapies can help alleviate the pain, including spinal decompression. Functional Medicine: Root Cause Health Care

The practice of functional medicine is designed to address unique causes of diseases within one patient which differentiates the treatment given to another patient with similar symptoms yet slightly differing variables. Each patient may undergo comprehensive testing and observation of the genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle environment surrounding the patient. As no two patients can ever be the same in all these factors, the treatments, accordingly, must be tailored uniquely to that patient.  Many drugs, for example, are currently tested in a randomized placebo-controlled trial (RCT), meaning there are at least two groups involved, with one getting the drug at a set dosage, while the other receives a dummy drug or nothing at all. Or there can be a third group receiving a lower or higher dose of the drug. RCTs are designed as parallel, crossover, or factorial. While RCTs deal with groups of people in a setting, functional medicine, and subsequent treatment is designed to focus on the systems of the body(circulatory, digestive, lymphatic and endocrine system etc.) and how they’re interacting with the other systems and the environment they are in contact with.   Health comes from proper functioning.  Symptoms are the body’s way of telling us, something is not functioning properly.  So we dive into finding out why.  We know that drugs are not the answer to why the body isn’t functioning properly, it’s a way to force the body to stop those symptoms from showing up.  For example a doctor may prescribe to you a high blood pressure medication(anti-hypertensive) to lower the blood pressure but never find out why they’re blood pressure has been rising.   Not finding or searching for the reason WHY somebody’s blood pressure is rising is in our opinion dangerous when dealing with a person’s health symptoms. We call this SICK CARE, at Pure Health Medical we focus on the HEALTH CARE of a person. Finding out why the body is trying to raise the blood pressure.  For instance the inability for your blood vessels to be able to expand (stretch) could be coming from a nutrient deficiency or the elevated blood pressure could be a response to stressors in the environment externally or internally. Either way functional medicine is there to find these difficult answers. Food Sensitivity Here is an example of a typical scenario where your functional medicine doctor provides personalized review and assessment to identify the condition. A patient comes into the doctor’s office complaining of constant fatigue and irregular bowel movements, ranging from constipation to bouts of diarrhea with painful stomach cramps. Rather than suggesting that the patient should take a certain number of milligrams of a prescribed drug, the first step is to have the patient record what is eaten every day and at what time of day each described meal is eaten.    The patient creates the list of food eaten and there appears to be a correlation between the coffee consumed upon rising, the cereal and milk eaten for breakfast, and diarrhea occurring more often in late morning hours rather than later in the day. The patient is told to drink the coffee and wait an hour before eating the cereal. The patient reports back that the coffee does not upset his stomach but, half an hour later after eating his cereal, he begins getting the usual stomach cramps.  The patient is tested for dairy immune reaction by testing the antibody levels to certain components of dairy.  The doctor provides a different menu to eat for breakfast which proves very successful within a week. Another outcome is the patient is not as tired, bloated or inflamed. In this case, it is a change in diet and uncovering that dairy should be removed from the diet for a time being until we reset the immune system is the correct move to improve the health condition. Allergies Another example of a general case where a functional medicine doctor analyzed the patient’s condition and circumstances and applied proper testing to determine the cause and then solution.  A patient complained of always waking up with dry irritated eyes and a stuffy nose. When asked if there was a lot of dust in the room, the patient said yes. The AC vent was on the ceiling to the left of the bed and when it came on intermittently, it blew air right onto the patient. The patient also had pets that slept on the bed at night.  The patient tested positive with a dust mite allergy test. The recommendation for irritated eyes was to have a small air purifier placed in the room and turned on at night. Next, specialized AC filters were recommended, and the patient decided to have the vents cleaned out as well, suspecting this was half the problem with eye irritation. However, the pets remained in place but were brushed down a few hours before going to bed. These solutions were proven successful within two weeks after implementation. Doctor examining low back pain

What Exactly is LOW BACK PAIN?

Low back pain is any pain, discomfort, or stiffness in the area between the bottom of the ribcage and the top of the gluteal muscles. Unfortunately, almost everyone will experience low back pain at some point in their lives. What’s good about this same scenario is that a significant portion of these people will not have a serious cause of their back pain such as organ dysfunction, tumor, or infection but rather will have a musculoskeletal component that can easily be addressed by a skilled clinician. Types of LOW BACK PAIN There are three major types of low back pain. 1. Axial, referring to the center of the body or within the spine. 2. Referred, which is simply one region of the body producing the actual pain, yet someone feels the pain in another; this type of pain is usually dull and achy. 3. Radicular, the last type, may be associated or caused by one of the other two types noted above. Radicular refers to pain down into the hip, thigh or leg from some level of disc irritation, and is often very sharp in its path. Most people and general physicians lump all radicular pain into the label of “sciatica”. As chiropractors, we know there are different variations of radicular pain that may or may not involve the sciatic nerve. Why does my LOW BACK PAIN keep coming back? Any complaint that does not either fully resolve or continues to return is likely that it’s root cause is not being addressed. It’s very easy to get caught up in reducing someone’s symptoms and calling it a day but it takes a skillful clinician to see past the pain and look at function as well as other potential causes of a patient’s back pain. Be sure to check out our blog on Top 6 Tips for Choosing a Chiropractor – Pure Health Medical to be better equipped in finding a high quality provider for your healing journey. Potential causes of LOW BACK PAIN There are four categories of causes of low back pain: Non-specific, Spinal disease, Visceral, and nerve root. Luckily around 90% of people will have what we call “non-specific low back pain” in which the pain is caused by the muscles and joints of the lower spine. Nerve root would be the next most common cause of low back pain, meaning there is some level of encroachment on the nerve that leaves the spinal cord whether it is from the disc itself, or the bones around the spine have overgrown in a condition that we call stenosis. Visceral pain is defined as pain being generated from an organ due to dysfunction, inflammation etc. that is felt in another area; in this case, it’s the low back. Common organs that refer pain to the low back are the kidneys, gallbladder and reproductive organs. * This does not happen often, but if you truly suspect your low back pain is coming from a more serious condition as mentioned above, please consult your general care physician to get appropriate care. * If you are given medications to cover up your symptoms from organ dysfunction, please know that other options are out there, such as functional medicine, that can help you get on the right track with natural solutions while minimizing side effects. Lastly, spinal disease such as infections, compression fractures, tumors, and cauda equina syndrome are the LEAST common yet most serious of the causes of low back pain. These are things that get ruled out during a thorough history and exam. LOW BACK PAIN relief using chiropractic? Low back pain is a chiropractors “bread and butter” so to speak. It is the condition that the general population knows us to treat, and rightfully so, as we have been trained extensively to rule out more serious causes during the exam and effectively treat common, less serious, causes of low back pain without drugs or surgery. The first step is getting a good idea of what is causing your pain, which starts with a high-quality history and exam where we listen to the patient and determine if we are the best place for you to see results. LOW BACK PAIN relief using exercise and stretching techniques Sometimes exercise alone can help improve low back pain and the good news is that our amazing staff at Pure Health Medical has made some videos that are worth exploring to see if they help your low back pain. If they don’t, we would love the chance to assess you in person so we can appreciate all factors that may be contributing to your low back pain; This way we can not only give you an accurate reason as to why we think you may be having low back pain, but we can prescribe specific exercise FOR YOU. How can chiropractic treat LOW BACK PAIN? Chiropractors are typically known for our treatment of low back pain. We use any combination of adjustments / mobilizations, soft tissue techniques, decompression, exercises and other modalities that are needed for the patient to decrease pain and get back to living a high-quality life! The reason our approach is different at Pure Health Medical, is we will address the pain (symptom) while addressing the root cause (movement dysfunction). Why Try Body Sculpting?

At Pure Health Medical our focus has always been the patient and their goals. There are two types of patients we see. The first type is a person that doesn’t or hasn’t cared about their health for awhile because they just haven’t seen results, so they just gave up. A patient like this usually needs our whole-body solutions like the new healthcare model- Functional Medicine. Functional Medicine finds solutions for patients with “weight loss resistance”. These people have been slowly gaining weight, despite what they have tried over and over again. From every fad diet like paleo, ketogenic, beach body, vegetarian to carnivore diets, workouts, fasting, and cleansing still with little to no success, especially long term. In the functional medicine model, we ask better questions and use functional diagnostic lab testing to get better answers for long-term results. For example: An answer may be a hypothyroid issue that downregulates the metabolism and causes the weight loss resistance. We have another blog that discusses this in more detail Why Can’t I Lose Weight? – Pure Health Medical. Most often, we see inflammation as the root cause of weight loss resistance and the cause of that inflammation can come from many different sources. The inability to detox properly starts the inflammatory cascade, and toxins in the body lead to cells not able to use energy or make energy which leads to a slow metabolism. With our Functional Medicine protocols, we can treat the underlying condition and truly find the cause of a patient’s weight loss resistance. The second type of patient we see is someone that is very proactive; they tend to workout, eat pretty healthy, and do a lot of things that benefit their overall well-being. However, they have a nagging area that just won’t go away no matter what they do. That’s when our body sculpting technology (EMSCULPT NEO) can be the solution! Either way, if you are proactive or just want to feel and look your best, Pure Health Medical has the solutions for you! https://www.purehealthmedical.us/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Emsculpt_Drew_video-Why-mothers-need-Emsculpt_ENUS100.mp4 Please feel free to contact our office at (614) 839-1044. Top Ten Thyroid Symptoms

These are the top ten thyroid symptoms we successfully treat in our office. If you have any one or more of these symptoms it could mean your thyroid is underactive AKA-hypothyroidism. 1) Weight Gain In our office, we see weight gain as the most common symptom associated with an underactive thyroid. This is because the thyroid regulates metabolic function (metabolism) of the cells in your body, therefore, your ability to burn calories slows way down. You will notice you are slowly gaining weight without even changing your eating habits. This is a big indicator you need to check your thyroid function from the thyroid gland itself and from the cellular uptake of the thyroid hormone. 2) Fatigue Since the thyroid controls metabolism and energy levels, feeling extra run down and exhausted is a sure sign that something is off. This is the type of fatigue that persists day in and day out, interrupting your everyday quality of life. It also makes it extra difficult for weight management as you may feel less like working out and instead want to lie down on the couch. 3) Constipation An underactive thyroid slows everything down, especially your GI tract. Usually this can be associated with the adrenal glands. If your body is constantly in a stressed flight-or-flight state, then your adrenals will kick up stress hormones (like adrenaline and cortisol) to get you through your day. The problem with that is your body gets robbed from the rest-and-digest process (the parasympathetic nervous system) which is needed to help digest food properly. Think of your thyroid as the engine of your car and the adrenals are the gas pedal- they are connected to each other, and the gas will affect the engine. So make sure to be thorough and get a complete picture. 4) Frequently Feeling Cold People with hypothyroidism may feel especially cold in their feet and hands or have difficulty adjusting to temperature changes. This is because when your metabolism slows down, you’re not burning energy, which causes you to feel cold. You will most-likely feel cold hands and feet first, because those are furthest away from your heart. If the hypothyroidism gets bad enough you will notice your core temperature will drop as well. 5) Mood Changes Research has connected hypothyroidism and depression. In order to make a thyroid hormone, you need the amino acid Tyrosine. Tyrosine is also needed to make dopamine, which is the feel good neurotransmitter in your brain. So if you notice mood changes, don’t forget the missing link could be an underactive thyroid. 6) Dry Skin Your skin cells are continually turning over. When the thyroid isn’t working optimally, this process slows down. As a result, older skin remains on the body longer, which can cause dry and itchy skin. 7) Brain Fog Your thyroid has a significant impact on your brain function and health. Your thyroid controls the metabolism of the cells which means it controls the energy production in your cells. The most energy demanding organ in your body is the brain. If the brain cannot get energy, it will feel sluggish and foggy. 8) Hair Loss Thinning hair, including the outer edge of eyebrows, are a sign of hypothyroid function. Since your thyroid regulates hair follicles, a low thyroid hormone level affects hair growth. 9) High Cholesterol Many are surprised to learn that your thyroid and cholesterol are deeply connected. Low thyroid levels affect the body’s ability to remove LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) and increase the absorption of cholesterol. Your body also needs cholesterol in order to make thyroid hormone. It’s the building block of all hormones, so if your body is signaling you don’t have enough thyroid hormone, then your liver will have to make more cholesterol. The body making more cholesterol is just the symptom because once we fix the underlying cause of why the thyroid isn’t functioning, your cholesterol symptoms will normalize. 10) Weak, Achy Joints and Muscles Why might someone’s muscles get weak and joints get achy? This all goes back to the inability for the muscle cells and cartilage of the joints to be able to get the energy they need to release the toxins out of the cells. Toxin release out of cells is an active process, which means it requires energy to do so. So it wouldn’t be surprising if your thyroid gland is sluggish and your muscles and joints, in turn, are sore from toxic accumulation. On a side note… if your traditional medical doctor stated your thyroid labs are normal, or just put you on medication and you still have these symptoms, your thyroid isn’t the root cause of your symptoms. If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, we encourage you to find the root cause. If left untreated “properly”, it can develop into more serious complications. We suggest working with a Functional Medicine provider to get to the root cause of your symptoms.  Call us at (614) 839-1044 if you have any further questions so we may be of assistance in getting your life back on track! How to Cure Sciatica

At Pure Health Medical, we first need to find out exactly what is causing your pain to cure sciatica. That’s why step one is to perform an experienced thorough examination with our patients. Let’s explain some important information so you can find a solution to your aches or pains. What exactly is SCIATICA? In order to cure sciatica, you must first know what it is.  Sciatica is the term often given to any person with any pain that is in their leg, whether it stays in their hip, goes down to their knee or all the way down to the foot. Sometimes this is the correct diagnosis, but often it is not. Sciatica is actually irritation to the sciatic nerve or it’s contributing nerve roots. This can happen in the low back from a disc bulge or in the hip from a tight muscle (called the Piriformis) which will “clamp” down on the nerve as it runs underneath it. Potential causes of SCIATICA The potential causes of sciatica include: disc bulges, piriformis syndrome, “pseudo-sciatica” and cauda equina syndrome. Disc bulges are probably the easiest to understand as it is the most common reason sciatica is found. The center of the disc can work its way toward the outside of the disc causing what is called a bulge; this can happen either in one instant (such as lifting something very heavy) or over time from poor posture and lack of quality movement. Piriformis syndrome is when the piriformis muscle itself becomes tight causing an increase in pressure on the sciatic nerve itself, resulting in pain down the leg. “Pseudo-sciatica” is a term used to describe the same path of pain down someone’s leg that is actually being caused by a knot or trigger point in a muscle on the side of the hip (the gluteus minimus). Why does my SCIATICA keep coming back? Often times, people try to use a chemical approach to a physical problem, which does not make a whole lot of sense and ends up being ineffective. In the context of sciatica, there is physical pressure on the nerve somewhere along its path that needs to be relieved and using an over-the-counter medication to chemically change the symptom does not usually work, since the actual problem is not actually being addressed. SCIATICA relief using chiropractic? Since the nerve roots for the sciatic nerve originate in the low back, Chiropractors can help a disc bulge in the low back heal, alleviating pressure off the nerve roots resulting in less pain and better function! Chiropractors can use adjustments, soft tissue techniques, modalities, and specific exercises to help alleviate sciatic pain and improve movement quality. This method helps address both the symptom and the cause. Here at Pure Health Medical, we offer many kinds of modalities (like ultrasound) which helps reduce inflammation and aid in the natural healing process. Electric Stimulation can be used to relax muscles in spasm that often present with a disc bulge, and Decompression is helpful to increase space for the disc so that more oxygen and nutrient carrying blood can get to the injured tissue to allow for quicker healing. How can chiropractic treat SCIATICA? Chiropractors can treat sciatica with many different tools including adjustments, soft tissue techniques, exercises, decompression, and other therapeutic modalities. The treatment would depend on what the physician determines to be the cause of your sciatic pain. As stated earlier, there are multiple potential causes of sciatica, each requiring a different style of treatment. Luckily, here at Pure Health Medical, we offer all these options so whatever is needed to help alleviate your pain – we’ve got your back! Please feel free to contact our office at (614) 839-1044. Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

Are you frustrated with your body not dropping weight like you want it to? After all, you cleaned up your diet, you decreased calorie intake, heck… you’ve even been working out and still, your weight isn’t budging. If this sounds like you, then we may have found the answer you’ve been looking for! After many years of clinical experience helping people with weight loss resistance, we have finally cracked the code and found the most common reason why someone has such a tough time dropping those pesky pounds. Could your dishwasher soap cause you to be overweight or your shampoos or your water or air? Science has shown it could and probably is the cause of your weight gain. According to a recent study, 80% of Americans have traces of hormone disrupting chemicals in their body. Chemicals found in our environment are known to cause:● Obesity (even childhood obesity)● Excess estrogen production● Immune system weakening● Weakened metabolism In fact, some chemicals that are pervasive in our environment are even called “Obesogens” which are “endocrine disruptors” that mess with your hormones! Obesogens are exactly what they sound like… chemicals that can lead to obesity. Some of the worst obesogens to watch for:● Parabens (linked to reproductive issues)● Triclosan (Mimics estrogen and causes weight gain)● Phthalates (Disrupts hormones related to metabolism)● Bisphenol-A (BPA) (Linked to weight gain in women) For a lot of people … THIS can be the hidden reason why it seems impossible to lose weight. Now if you’re wondering, “How can I find out if obesogens are causing my weight gain? We have doctors waiting to analyze your body’s level of toxicity! Our office runs a special urine test called “Total Tox Burden”. This urine collection will let us know what toxic exposures you could be struggling with. The science is clear… The more Obesogens present in your body, the more difficult it is to lose unwanted weight. So why fight an uphill battle? Instead- schedule a consultation with our weight loss doctor today! If the doctor finds an accumulation of toxins, this could mean one of two things: 1. You need to improve or change your current environment, or 2. You need to improve your level and ability to detoxify naturally. Either way, we can help you get the answers you need to lose those pesky pounds! Please feel free to contact our office at (614) 839-1044. Book Appointment New Patient Information

chiropractor adjustment with doctor and patient

Top 6 Tips for Choosing a Chiropractor

1) Make sure the staff has your back (no pun intended) 😊 What we mean is…The staff should be supportive and being a patient advocate for you during your care. You are also going to have lots of different questions like cost time and finances, so making sure the staff is there for you is very important. During the phone interview, ask lots of questions and see how they answer you. If they seem annoyed and quick or dismissive then it’s probably best that you seek another place that cares. 2) Consider the chiropractor‘s experience Experience matters when you’re facing muscle skeletal or spinal health issues. We have over 16 years of clinical experience helping patients and delivering five star service. And what we can tell you is like any doctor coming right out of school, there is a lack of clinical experience and “know how” when handling individual patient care conditions. So having those years of experience really does allow for the best care possible. 3) Read patient reviews Reading what other people have to say about the chiropractor and chiropractic office can provide insight into how the chiropractor provides care and how his or her clinic operates. Patient reviews typically reflect people’s experiences about the chiropractor, wait times, office environment and staff. You can learn a lot about the practice just by reading reviews. We at Pure Health are one of the most reviewed chiropractic offices in the surrounding area. Feel free to read about our practice.  4) Make sure the chiropractor does a thorough exam and x-rays before giving you the best course of treatment When a patient has come into our office who has been to a traditional medical doctor or chiropractor previously they usually comment on how their last experience did not include a spinal or joint x-rays or a thorough examination. The examination should include a medical history to rule out any pathology or red flags that indicate a specialty referral. For example, if the patient has Osteoporosis of the spine, this patient should only receive certain low-force adjustments that don’t put the patient’s bone under weighted stress to avoid fractures. The symptoms that brought the patient into the clinic should provoke questions such as: 1. When did the problem start (Onset); 2. What is making it worse (provocative); 3. What makes it better (palliative); 4. Describe the type of pain (sharpshooting, dull, achy, stiff, burning, etc.); 5. Severity of Pain (a numerical number out of 10 is usually used, is the pain or discomfort radiating or referring to another area); and 6. Timing. The doctor should find out what time of day the problem occurs. For example, pain that is worse at night or pain that wakes you up is possibly a red flag for a serious medical condition. Some chiropractors don’t utilize x-ray of anatomy to treat. A picture is worth 1000 words. We most commonly use x-rays to not just visualize, but to actually see the loss of motion in a segment, and to visually see the direction of misalignment that may be causing the discomfort. X-Rays take away the “guessing game”. It is also common that we take specialized x-ray views that show either excessive, restricted, or “stuck” motion. To give the best adjustments and restore motion, we must learn the condition of your joints. If the patient has healthy looking joints on an x-ray the patient will generally respond quicker and better. If the patients x-rays show significant arthritic joints, some treatment techniques would not be indicated. When all of the above expectations are met, rest assured you are in good hands. Chiropractic care is one of the safest medical disciplines in the world. 5) Do a free consultation There’s nothing wrong with talking to the staff or doctor and asking them questions about your condition and their approach before you commit to anything. Even a 5 to 10 minute phone consultation can help get a feel for the office to be comfortable and confident in choosing the right healthcare provider. If an office does not offer free consultations, that should be a red flag. At our office, we invite and encourage patience to schedule a free consultation. We believe interviewing your healthcare provider is important in your success. Health is a two-way street. Both patient and provider should feel comfortable and confident working together. 6) Make sure the chiropractic office offers different techniques and modalities for treatments After years of experience we have learned many different techniques to utilize for different conditions and the patients specificity. For example, in our office we treat patients from geriatric to newborn, so it is important and imperative that we have different techniques to help restore proper nerve and musculoskeletal function. The most common chiropractic techniques are called Diversified, Gonstead, Activator, Impulse Thompson drop, Atlas orthogonal and NUCCA. Most commonly used at our facility are Diversified Impulse and Thompson Drop. When we utilize these techniques, it helps best for the vast majority of people of all ages and conditions. We also incorporate progressive rehab (physical therapy) with most of our treatment plans. These therapies include therapeutic ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, cervical traction, flexion distraction, spinal decompression, cryotherapy, moist heat, therapeutic exercises, therapeutic healing injections and massage therapy.
