Benefits of Functional Medicine Treatment
The traditional American healthcare system is not always the best option for patients. Consequentially focusing on treating symptoms instead of finding the root cause of illness, which makes it more likely for patients to experience issues again in the future.
Functional medicine allows us to create a customized treatment plan for each of our patients. We know you are an individual and we believe treatments should take all of your circumstances into consideration.
Functional medicine also helps create better relationships between doctors and patients. It allows patients to feel more in control of their treatment and to have input into the decisions that affect their health.
A patient seeing a Functional Medicine Practitioner at Pure Health can expect to spend a considerable amount of time in the clinician’s office due to the specific care given to the individual’s health related conditions. Not only is critical information collected about factors that may have set the stage for (or may be contributing to) the present problems, but a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s habits of daily living, prior illnesses and traumas, environmental exposures, and genetic influences must be gained.
Functional medicine cost can be much more affordable than turning to standard medical care. Because our doctors take such detailed medical histories from every patient, exploratory tests and other costly diagnostic procedures are not always necessary.
Because functional medicine can also help prevent illnesses, it can save patients expenses on future treatments.

FAQ About Functional Medicine
Functional medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on restoring well-being and health by working with your body’s natural biology. It lets us see what is not working correctly and how we can resolve the problem.
Functional medicine uses diet, nutrition, stress management, and other types of lifestyle modifications to provide relief.
Traditional medicine takes an illness-centric approach. It deals with the body as a collection of organs that can develop specific diseases.
Functional medicine, however, sees the body as one organism. It is a patient-centered approach to medicine that treats the individual as a whole. Instead of masking the problem, Functional Medicine aims at restoring the body’s natural function. Although Functional Medicine practitioners may prescribe nutraceuticals, they are used to gently nudge the patients physiology in a positive direction so the patient will no longer need them.
In Functional Medicine, laboratory tests are often recommended, including tests both conventional (i.e., CBC) and less conventional (i.e., Stool Analysis). These tests help determine which key biological processes are functioning properly which is essential information for the development of a personalized comprehensive treatment plan to restore your health. Our office uses the most advanced diagnostic testing available through companies such as Cyrex Laboratories, Genova Diagnostics, Precision Analytical, Vibrant Wellness, Quicksilver, and Access Labs.
Functional medicine can treat many chronic conditions, including allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, hormonal imbalances, digestive issues, skin disorders, and even mental health conditions.
Functional medicine may use a number of techniques to help restore balance to your body. These techniques include stress management, nutrition counseling, pharmaceutical interventions, lifestyle counseling, nutraceuticals, and mind-body therapy.
Many patients find that integrating functional medicine with other treatments offers the best outcomes. There are many instances when choosing traditional treatments, like surgery, alongside functional medicine allows patients to avoid complications and the need for additional treatments.
If necessary our Nurse Practitioner can prescribe medications for patients, but it depends on their specific condition and needs. Often times once our Functional Medicine Practitioner gets to the root cause many medications are unnecessary.
The cost of the functional medicine treatments you need will depend on many factors, but for most people, functional medicine is more affordable than traditional treatments like surgeries and other invasive procedures. Because it focuses on the prevention of illnesses, functional medicine can also save you money in the future.
